About Fondazione Cominelli Award
In the extraordinary setting of Lake Garda with its colours and lights, among the
moraine hills that stretch from the Gulf of Salò and the Gulf of Manerba, at Cisano
di San Felice we find the Fondazione Cominelli.
The splendid building, built in the XVII century by the Cominelli family, overlooks
the Gulf of Salò, houses the Foundation. The Fondazione Cominelli, in carrying out
its cultural activities has now come up with an articulated project where it
becomes a reference point for the applied arts, not only for exhibitions, but also
as a place where applied art "is done"; it does this by organising workshops and
conferences on the subject; of this complex panorama it has chosen to present and
delve into some sectors only: photography, ceramics and jewellery.
The Fondazione Cominelli is sided by agc which organises and promotes the event.
Agc has already promoted other projects on the national territory. Agc, (Contemporary Jewellery
Association) founded in June 2004, has, among its statutory
objectives, that of drawing attention to the value of the contemporary jewellery
culture and spreading it.
Contemporary jewellery today represents a sector of advanced research and
experimentation of new expressive languages as well as exploiting the personal
ornament concept. In close contact with the international community, the
association follows up a series of initiatives aimed at promoting a constructive
and synergistic confrontation with other artistic and productive realities.
Here, in this setting, will be held the third edition of the "Premio
Fondazione Cominelli".This year this manifestation will be sided by the
start of a new section dedicated to training in the University, Institutes and
Schools in this sector. The scope of this section is to present and confront
different formative directions within the "jewellery" ambit, the different
orientations, from design to artistic and handcraft training, getting the formative
peculiarities of each reality to emerge.
An exhibition will present the projects and prototypes by director of the Course.
With the third edition of the Fondazione Cominelli Award for Contemporary Jewellery
2012 there will also be the the Permanent Collection of Contemporary Jewellery;
each edition will enrich the Collection with new works, some by the competition
participants and others by artists selected in this year 2012 by the Gallerist
Ms.Rita Marcangelo. The permanent Collection will become an important document of
the Fondazione Cominelli, an occasion for a visit by jewellery lovers and those of
the trade.

SUR HORNSTULL is a contemporary art, craft and design oriented Gallery-Workshop-Cafe. "SUR" stands for many meanings:
The swedish word for "sour" and "angry"
The spanish word for "south"
The french word for "on"
THE CAFE SHOP - opening vernissage 05.06.2012, 18:00 - 23:00
SUR HORNSTULL CAFE SHOP with its location at the entrance invites to enjoy cafe, cold and basic food related to and by discovering the word SUR (Sour). The cafe shop exhibits and sells selected art craft and design products. Jewellery and objects will take over an own permanent exhibition space from September 2012 on.
THE GALLERY
SUR HORNSTULL GALLERY is located at the center heart and offers a closed exhibition space of 20m2 with a clear focus on contemporary art, craft and design.
THE WORKSHOP
SUR HORNSTULL WORKSHOP is the workshop of Bernhard Stimpfl-Abele located downstairs. From time to time, national and international artists, craftsmen and designers will be invited to join projects by working around the workshop area. Interested people will get the chance to have an insight and see how contemporary art, craft and design will be produced.
ORGANIC METAL and FRUIT EXPLOSION
"Organic Metal" is about the old, the new, and the ambivalence in between. I want
to preserve, or possibly conserve, a snapshot of the aging process and a specific
moment in the life/death of organic materials--mostly bread or bread dough. These
organic materials are also the basic material of my jewellery pieces. I see
similarities between the way we humans grow up and develop. I let my work
experience different elements. It almost looks like evolution in itself by
following the already finished process from a distance. It can even produce a short
glimpse into the future.
In another light, every thing can be different. Already known materials from daily life still have the potential to surprise. There is a huge possibility to show new qualities within material investigations of natural bread dough, lemon or potatoes for example but also in modern time used materials like polystyrene and metal.

DIE NEUE SAMMLUNG - THE INTERNATIONAL DESIGN MUSEUM MUNICH
Ausgangspunkt ist der menschliche Körper, der als Verbindung zwischen Außenwelt und der inneren Welt des Individuums gesehen wird - diese Konzeption prägt die gestalterische Haltung von Ädellab (dt. Edel-Labor), dem Fachbereich Schmuck an der Konstfack Stockholm, University College of Arts, Crafts and Design.
Basierend auf dem bereits bestehenden Fachbereich Metall, wurde Ädellab 2004 durch
den niederländischen Schmuckkünstler Ruudt Peters gegründet und seit 2006 auch
durch die dänische Schmuckkünstlerin Karen Pontoppidan, die heute Ädellab leitet,
entscheidend geprägt. Die schwedische Klasse ist jedoch nicht nur geographisch,
sondern vor allem in ihrem künstlerischen Denken grenzüberschreitend. Bekannt für
den dezidiert heutigen Ansatz, erkundet Ädellab die Möglichkeiten des Mediums
Schmuck als bedeutendes und eigenständiges Ausdrucksmittel unserer Zeit. Eigenen
Ideen, Beobachtungen, Faszinationen und Obsessionen kann ebenso Form verliehen
werden wie Emotionen, Fragen der Identität oder zwischenmenschlichen
Auseinandersetzungen.
»Die Arbeiten der Studenten stellen nicht die Erfüllung eines akademischen
Arbeitsauftrags dar, vielmehr folgen sie dem individuellen Ausdrucksbedürfnis der
Künstler. Das heißt, dass die künstlerische Ausdrucksform, und somit auch die
Arbeiten der Absolventen nicht nur im Lichte einer logischen Herangehensweise bzw.
eines Versuches, die Welt der Dinge zu deuten, interpretiert werden können. Die
Objekte sind in dieser Form entstanden, weil ein Künstler, ein menschliches Wesen
mit Erfahrungen, Gefühlen, Träumen und Fehlern, sie so hervorbringen wollte und
geschaffen hat.« (Karen Pontoppidan)
Die Ausstellung findet anlässlich der Schmuckschau der Internationalen
Handwerksmesse statt. Ädellab zeigt unter der Leitung von Professor Karen
Pontoppidan in der Neuen Sammlung - The International Design Museum Munich - eine
Auswahl von Abschlussarbeiten der letzten fünf Jahre.
